Chemistry or compatibility — which one actually wins when love becomes a business? Netflix is ready to explore that question with its upcoming Tamil series #Love, premiering on October 2. Set against the fast-moving and sometimes chaotic world of dating apps, the series brings together Aishwarya Lekshmi and Arjun Das in a fresh on-screen pairing, with the two playing rival dating-app founders whose professional competition could end up becoming something far more personal. And from the first glimpse of their dynamic, their chemistry certainly seems to need no algorithm to figure out.
Showrun and produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Balaji Mohan, #Love puts a contemporary spin on the familiar idea of two people finding love when they least expect it. The story revolves around rival dating platforms FOUND and Find My Bae, with founders Tara and Matthew at the centre of the narrative. The irony is obvious — they have built entire businesses around helping other people find their perfect matches, but when it comes to their own lives, things may not be quite as straightforward.
The premise taps directly into the way romance has changed in the digital age. Swipes, matches, unread messages, ghosting, compatibility scores and endless conversations have become part of the modern dating vocabulary, and #Love appears ready to turn all of that into a warm, entertaining relationship story. Add two competing founders, a professional rivalry and an unexpected emotional connection, and the series promises a romance where the biggest question may not be “Are we compatible?” but “Can we stop competing long enough to find out?”
Speaking about the series, showrunner and producer Soundarya Rajinikanth said, “What drew me to #Love was how effortlessly it captures relationships today without losing its warmth and emotion. Balaji has created characters who are ambitious, flawed and incredibly easy to root for, and Arjun and Aishwarya bring such a refreshing energy to them. It's exactly the kind of contemporary story we were excited to bring to audiences with Netflix.” Her comments underline the show's attempt to balance the technology-driven world of modern dating with the emotions that remain surprisingly timeless.
Director Balaji Mohan also spoke about the changing nature of romance and what he wanted the series to capture. “When we made #Love, we wanted to tell a story that feels like it belongs to today. Romance has evolved, the way we meet people has changed, but the emotions at the heart of relationships remain incredibly familiar and timeless,” he said. The filmmaker further explained that the series isn't restricted to the romance between its central characters, adding, “What I love about this series is that it isn't only about two people falling for each other – friendship, family, ambition and finding yourself are equally important parts of their journeys.”
That broader focus could give #Love more emotional depth than a straightforward dating-app romance. Tara and Matthew may be competing to build successful businesses and prove their respective approaches to matchmaking, but their journeys are also expected to touch upon ambition, friendships, family relationships and the process of figuring out what they actually want from life. In that sense, the dating apps are more than just a backdrop — they become a reflection of how people approach relationships in today's world.
The series is written by Nirmal Williams, with Sharada Subramanian and Shweta Chakravarty serving as co-writers. It is produced by May6 Entertainment Factory, bringing together a creative team that appears keen on giving the familiar romantic-comedy space a distinctly contemporary identity. With Tamil-language storytelling at its core and Netflix as its global streaming home, #Love is also positioned to reach audiences well beyond its regional setting.
The pairing of Aishwarya Lekshmi and Arjun Das is another major attraction. Both actors bring distinctive screen personalities to the project, and placing them opposite each other as professional rivals-turned-potential-romantic interests gives the series an interesting dynamic from the outset.
