The International Indian Film Academy Awards are heading back to Abu Dhabi, and the 2027 edition is already shaping up to be a major celebration of Indian cinema on a global stage. The 27th edition of IIFA Weekend & Awards will return to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, for its fourth showcase in the destination, with the two-day extravaganza scheduled for January 22 and 23, 2027.
The prestigious event will take place at the Etihad Arena, Yas Island, bringing together film stars, creators, musicians, fans and members of the global Indian entertainment community. The return was officially announced on September 16, with the landmark announcement taking place at the Arabian Travel Market 2026. A ceremonial signing was also held to mark the continued partnership between IIFA and Abu Dhabi.
The 2027 edition is being organised in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral, the organisation behind several of Yas Island's major entertainment destinations and experiences. With Indian cinema continuing to build audiences across international markets, IIFA's return to Abu Dhabi once again positions the emirate as a major meeting point for Indian entertainment and its worldwide fan base.
And, of course, there will be plenty of star power. The organisers have announced a packed line-up featuring Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal. With actors, filmmakers and performers from different corners of the Hindi film industry coming together, IIFA 2027 is set to combine awards, live entertainment and plenty of celebrity moments.
The collaboration between IIFA and Abu Dhabi has grown considerably over the years. For more than 26 years, IIFA has taken Indian cinema beyond the country's borders, using international destinations to connect Bollywood and Indian film audiences with the world. Abu Dhabi, with its entertainment infrastructure and global tourism profile, has become an important part of that journey.
Yas Island is expected to once again become the centre of the celebrations. Known for its major attractions, live events and entertainment experiences, the destination provides the backdrop for two days of music, performances, celebrity appearances and cinematic celebrations. For fans travelling from India and other parts of the world, the event also offers an opportunity to combine the awards weekend with the wider Yas Island experience.
Speaking about the return, H.E. Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said IIFA's return reflects the longstanding relationship between Abu Dhabi and India while reinforcing the city's growing profile as an international destination for entertainment and culture.
Taghrid Alsaeed, Executive Director – Marketing, Communications and Events at Miral, also welcomed IIFA's fourth Abu Dhabi showcase, highlighting the shared focus on creativity and storytelling and the opportunity to bring the energy of Indian cinema to Etihad Arena.
For IIFA founder and director Andre Timmins, the 2027 edition represents another step in the academy's long-running ambition to take Indian cinema to audiences around the world. He described the return to Yas Island as a special chapter and teased an edition focused on bigger experiences, stronger fan engagement and a celebration that extends beyond the arena.
The timing is also significant for fans already planning their entertainment calendars for early 2027. With a line-up featuring some of Hindi cinema's biggest names and a two-day format, IIFA 2027 is expected to turn Yas Island into a hub for Indian cinema enthusiasts from across the globe.
And the wait for tickets is almost over. Tickets for IIFA 2027 will go on sale on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10 AM UAE time. The event will be held at Etihad Arena on January 22 and 23, 2027, giving fans plenty of time to plan their trip to Abu Dhabi.
