The capital witnessed fireworks on Monday as Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Kamakhya Narayan Singh faced off with journalists during the Delhi press event for their upcoming film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. What was meant to be a standard promotional session quickly turned into a high-voltage exchange over politics, religion, and the film’s timing.

When questioned about the Kerala High Court ruling stating there was no love-jihad, Vipul shot back sharply: "Sir, there are three victims here whose court cases have established love jihad, but you don't believe it."

Director Narayan added, unapologetically, "This is not about the Supreme Court. The observations written in the court's judgment. We do this for our society, for our nation." His words left journalists momentarily stunned, as the filmmakers framed the film as a societal responsibility rather than mere cinema.

The conversation quickly turned to the Kerala elections, with the media pressing whether the film was politically timed. Vipul fired back: "The timing of the film. Okay, let me ask you a simple question. Let me answer that question. We knew there were elections in Bengal before Kerala. I could have taken a story from Bengal. I could have taken a story."

Kamakhya Narayan Singh reinforced their stance: "We don't contest elections. We are filmmakers. We are filmmakers. Don't ask us political questions."

The spiritual sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Kerala Story, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, produced under the banner of Sunshine Pictures, stars Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha. Expanding the narrative of its predecessor, the film explores alleged religious conversions, personal relationships, and societal pressures across several Indian states.

Despite the filmmakers’ insistence that the story is a social issue rather than a political statement, the teaser and trailer had already ignited legal and political debate. The release was scheduled for February 27, 2026, but a day prior, the Kerala High Court granted an interim stay, further fueling controversy around the film.

With strong statements like "We do this for our society, for our nation" and unapologetic defenses of their subject matter, Vipul and Kamakhya have ensured that The Kerala Story 2 will continue to dominate headlines — not just for its cinematic content, but for the fiery debates it sparks across courts, media, and social platforms.
