Bollywood stars Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra have come a long way since making their acting debut together in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year in 2012. While their careers and personal lives have followed different paths over the years, the friendship they share continues to remain as warm as ever. Their latest reunion in Mumbai has once again delighted fans, reminding everyone that their on-screen rivalry never turned into a real-life one.
Varun recently visited Sidharth and his wife, actress Kiara Advani, at their Mumbai residence. Sharing a picture with the couple on social media, Varun gave their friendship a playful twist with a reference to the popular romantic series Heated Rivalry. “Heated yes but never a rivalry with my brother. Thank u for the hospitality bhabhi ji,” he wrote in the caption, warmly thanking Kiara for hosting him.
Sidharth was quick to respond to Varun’s post, making the exchange even more special for fans. Resharing the picture, he wrote, “Bro you will always be my first.” The heartfelt yet humorous reply reflected the easygoing bond between the two actors. Their interaction also caught the attention of filmmaker Karan Johar, who launched both stars with Student of the Year. Recalling their characters Rohan and Abhimanyu, Karan commented, “Rohan and Abhimanyu! Heated rivalry? Solid lifelong bond.”
The reunion comes shortly after Varun’s appearance on a new episode of Koffee With Karan, where he spoke about wanting to share the screen with Sidharth again. During the conversation, Karan asked Varun which male co-star he would choose for a remake of the Canadian romantic series Heated Rivalry. Varun did not take long to name Sidharth, prompting Karan to describe the combination as a “sexy pairing.”
Explaining his choice, Varun brought up the interesting dynamic between their characters in Student of the Year. He jokingly suggested that there was even “sexual tension” between them in the 2012 film. Varun also recalled how audiences had reacted to their chemistry, saying that many people wanted his character to end up with Sidharth’s rather than Alia Bhatt’s character. The playful remarks quickly became a talking point among fans who still remember the trio’s debut film.
More than a decade after Student of the Year, Varun and Sidharth’s friendly exchange shows that their connection has survived changing careers, new milestones and busy schedules. While fans may be waiting to see the two actors reunite on screen, their recent social media interaction has already delivered a nostalgic treat. And if their latest banter is anything to go by, the bond between Rohan and Abhimanyu remains as entertaining off screen as it was on screen.
