The horror genre is set to get another spine-chilling addition this year as TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) has unveiled the first-look trailer for Inherit, an unsettling new Thai psychological horror thriller from acclaimed filmmaker Banjong Pisanthanakun. Known for delivering some of Thailand's most memorable horror films, the director returns with a supernatural tale that blends family secrets, ancient curses, and psychological terror into what already looks like one of the most anticipated Asian horror releases of 2026.

At the center of the story is Davika Hoorne, fresh off the acclaim of A Useful Ghost, who takes on one of the most intriguing roles of her career. She plays Woranart, a grandmother who mysteriously returns home looking just as young and beautiful as she did when she vanished five decades earlier. But her return is far from miraculous. Instead, Woranart has become the host of an ancient and sinister centipede spirit, bringing with her a terrifying curse that threatens to consume her wealthy family from within.

The chilling trailer hints that the family's luxurious lifestyle hides generations of dark secrets. As the supernatural force infiltrates their bloodline, Woranart's true mission becomes clear—she intends to pass the demonic curse onto her 18-year-old granddaughter, Oui, played by Baipor Thitiya Jirapornsilp. With eerie visuals, unsettling rituals, and an atmosphere drenched in dread, Inherit promises a psychological horror experience where no family member can be trusted and every revelation becomes more horrifying than the last.

Joining Davika Hoorne is an impressive ensemble featuring Sinjai Plengpanich, Trin Settachoke, Warattaya Nilkuha, and Baipor Thitiya Jirapornsilp, who together bring the fractured family drama to life. The screenplay has been penned by Ter Chantavit Dhanasevi, Thamsatid Charoenrittichai, and director Banjong Pisanthanakun, a creative team aiming to combine emotional storytelling with deeply rooted Thai folklore and supernatural mythology.

The first-look teaser doesn't rely on jump scares alone. Instead, it slowly builds an atmosphere of paranoia and unease, teasing disturbing imagery surrounding the ancient centipede spirit while leaving audiences questioning whether the family's greatest threat is the demon itself—or the secrets they've buried for generations. The haunting visuals and eerie sound design have already sparked excitement among horror fans eagerly awaiting its festival premiere.

Scheduled to arrive in November 2026, Inherit is shaping up to be one of the year's standout international horror films. Following its reveal at TIFF 2026, anticipation is only expected to grow as audiences prepare for a supernatural thriller that explores inheritance in its darkest possible form—where passing down the family legacy could mean passing down an eternal curse.
