Known for her fierce performances and unfiltered honesty, Richa Chadha was recently felicitated at the prestigious Character Tree Awards 2025, organized by Swami OMA and the AKK. The event, held to honor artists who have made meaningful contributions to cinema, was a heartfelt celebration—one that moved Chadha deeply.

Receiving the award, the Masaan and Heeramandi actress delivered a speech that was as real as her on-screen characters—unpolished, emotional, and straight from the heart. “You’ve honored me so deeply… I never expected this program would be so serene and so sincere. I’m happy to see how much love and effort has gone into organizing this evening for everyone who’s here.

Honestly, I don’t think any film function treats us with this much love and respect. Watching this tonight reminded me—I’ve done quite a bit of work too. I had forgotten that myself. For the past year, I’ve been raising my daughter. I hope you continue organizing such events every year with this same seriousness and grace, because this is important.

She further added, “We get so bored of those typical, over-the-top film functions… where people just wave their hands around and pretend to entertain us. I wish everyone would understand the importance of cinema. India has always been known for its stories. I believe everyone here is powerful and a stakeholder in this industry. I hope we continue to entertain people and spread love and joy.”

Her remarks struck a chord—not just for their sincerity, but for the subtle critique of today’s glitzy award shows. Calling them “chichore film functions”, Chadha made a compelling case for celebrating cinema with the dignity it deserves.

Richa Chadha has built her career playing women who are complex, strong, and unafraid to speak their truth—from her breakout role in Gangs of Wasseypur, to her soul-stirring performance in Masaan, to the recently acclaimed Heeramandi. Each character she embodies leaves a mark—not just on the screen, but on the audience's consciousness.

Up next, Richa will be seen in Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai, a satirical political drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. The film explores the circus of coalition politics with a powerhouse ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saurabh Shukla, Divya Dutta and Vinay Pathak.

Beyond acting, Richa Chadha stepped into the role of a producer last year—adding yet another feather to her cap. And as she revealed in her speech, she's also been focusing on motherhood, a journey she embraced with the same strength and love that define her artistry.
