Acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is stepping into the OTT world with Pritam And Pedro, and at the series' trailer launch, he opened up about the fascinating story behind its creation. The filmmaker revealed that the idea for the cyber-crime comedy drama emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, eventually evolving into one of the most anticipated streaming releases of 2026.
Sharing the origin of the project, Rajkumar Hirani said, "During the COVID period, I received a call from the head of the Mumbai Cyber Cell about making a film on cybercrime, but no one was actively working on the subject. I asked them to share the concept, saying I could develop it from home. In the process, I connected with Amit Dubey, who gave me a book of his short stories, a collection that included several ideas suitable for short films."
The filmmaker further explained that one particular concept sparked a much larger vision. According to Hirani, "While reading them, I felt that one of these stories could be expanded into a larger, multi-layered narrative. A few days later, during a Zoom call, I explained that the story I wanted to create wasn't one of the existing ones, but a completely new story altogether. I was given the opportunity to develop it in my own way, and that is how the journey of Pritam Pedro began."
The revelation has added another layer of intrigue to Pedro And Pritam, a series that blends cyber crime, comedy and suspense. What started as a discussion about cybercrime awareness during the pandemic eventually transformed into a full-fledged fictional universe, showcasing Hirani's knack for turning simple ideas into compelling stories.
Set in Goa, the series follows an unlikely partnership between Inspector Pedro Gonsalves, played by Arshad Warsi, and tech genius Pritam, portrayed by debutant Vir Hirani.
