It’s been one full year since Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank scared and charmed its way into the hearts (and nightmares) of audiences, and Maddock Films isn’t letting the anniversary go unnoticed. Taking to social media, the production house dropped a playful promo with the cheeky caption: “Ek saal mein, jo bhi yeh jaan gaye hain, unhein IAS ghoshit kar dein?” — celebrating not just the film's success, but also its fiercely loyal fanbase.
Released in August 2024, Stree 2 became a juggernaut at the box office, raking in a staggering ₹875 crore worldwide, and earning the title of the highest-grossing horror-comedy in Indian cinema history. It also broke international barriers, becoming the first Indian horror film to cross 1 million pounds in the UK — proof that Stree has truly gone global.
Directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Niren Bhatt, the film brought back fan favorites Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, while also weaving in surprise elements with Tamannaah Bhatia and a crossover appearance by Varun Dhawan as Bhediya. The film continued the spooky yet hilarious legacy of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe with flair, even if critics noted it occasionally repeated familiar beats from the first film.
But audiences didn’t seem to mind. Stree 2 not only dominated its opening weekends but also set records for fifth-week collections — a rare feat, especially for a genre film without a traditional “hero-led” formula. The clever blend of horror, satire, and small-town quirk, supported by sharp dialogues and memorable performances, proved irresistible.
As fans gear up for what’s next in the Maddock Monsterverse, one thing’s for sure — Stree still rules, and the legend of “sarkate” isn’t going anywhere.
