“Iss dosti ka ek usool hai…” — and apparently, it’s blockbuster films only! In a game-changing move for Indian cinema and streaming, Maddock Films has inked a multi-year partnership with Prime Video, locking in exclusive streaming rights for eight new films between 2025 and 2027.
The announcement, made with a cheeky X (formerly Twitter) post from Maddock Films, features a star-studded lineup including Thama, Param Sundari, Shiddat 2, Badlapur 2, and Ikkis. These films will all premiere on Prime Video post-theatrical release, following the wildly successful streaming performance of Stree 2, which clocked in over 50 million global viewers.
Led by the ever-strategic Dinesh Vijan, this collaboration reflects a bold pivot in Bollywood’s distribution model. With Prime Video’s access to 200 million+ subscribers globally, Maddock is clearly aiming to match cinematic storytelling with maximum reach. A 2023 PwC report even suggests that India's OTT market is growing at a whopping 20% annually, making this a savvy move that could outpace traditional theatrical-only rollouts.
From horror comedies (Thama) to sweeping war dramas (Ikkis), Maddock’s new slate leans into multi-genre diversity — a smart play, considering a 2022 Nielsen study showed that 60% of Indian OTT viewers prefer genre-blending content. Sequels like Badlapur 2 and Shiddat 2 also promise to build on fan-favorite legacies, with the added bonus of global accessibility.
One thing’s clear: with this Maddock–Prime alliance, blockbuster season is officially going worldwide.
