Vertical has just released the official trailer for Guns Up, a gritty-yet-humorous action-comedy starring Kevin James in a never-before-seen avatar — a morally conflicted cop turned mob enforcer. Written and directed by Edward Drake (Cosmic Sin, American Siege), the film is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.
The story follows Ray Hayes (James), a small-town police officer who, disillusioned by the limits of an honest paycheck, crosses over to the dark side. Moonlighting as a debt collector and muscle for organized crime, Ray and his wife Audrey (played by Christina Ricci) quietly stash away dirty money with dreams of opening their own family-run diner.
But five years in, with their criminal hustle almost behind them, things take a dark turn. A new mob boss named Lonny (played by Luis Guzmán) takes over the local syndicate and doesn’t trust Ray. After a job goes south, Ray finds himself on the wrong side of the crew he once worked for — forcing him and Audrey into survival mode to protect their kids and take on the mafia that once paid his bills.
Blending action, dark humor, and family stakes, Guns Up offers a refreshing mix of grit and comedy. The trailer teases intense shootouts, high-stakes chases, and surprisingly tender moments between Kevin James and Ricci as they navigate the chaos of a double life unraveling. With Francis Cronin, Kelly Landry, and Rob Gough rounding out the ensemble cast, the film looks set to deliver both thrills and laughs.
Mark your calendars for July 18, because Guns Up is ready to fire off with explosive energy and a surprising amount of heart.
