Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is giving his upcoming Tamil film Dorothy a musical beginning, and this one comes with a distinctly celebratory flavour. The filmmaker took to social media to share a lively video teasing the first song from the film, a wedding number composed by none other than legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Sharing the announcement, Subbaraj wrote, “Raaja Sambhavam begins with a Wedding song. Firstu Paattu ippo Wedding Paattu. Muhurtam naal - Aug 22nd.” With that, the filmmaker has confirmed that the first song from Dorothy will arrive on August 22, marking what he has aptly called the beginning of the “Raaja Sambhavam.”
The short teaser is packed with wedding energy. Traditional drummers, colourful celebrations, flower petals, dancing and ritual moments create an atmosphere that feels rooted in Tamil wedding traditions. Keerthy Suresh is prominently featured in the visuals, adding to the curiosity around her character and the world Subbaraj has created for the film.
Of course, the biggest talking point is the music. Having Ilaiyaraaja compose the wedding song gives the track an added layer of anticipation. Subbaraj's announcement cleverly plays on the idea of a grand musical celebration, and the phrase “Raaja Sambhavam” suggests that audiences can expect the veteran composer's contribution to be one of the film's major attractions.
Dorothy marks Karthik Subbaraj's 10th directorial venture and brings him together with Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth. The film is being produced by Guneet Monga Kapoor, Achin Jain and Jyoti Deshpande, with the team bringing together talent from across the Tamil and Indian film industries.
The project has already generated international interest as it is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026 before making its way to cinemas. Following its festival outing, Dorothy is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 25, 2026.
The musical announcement also adds another intriguing layer to a film that appears to be keeping its cards close to the chest. Subbaraj is known for moving comfortably between genres and moods, and the wedding song's colourful visuals suggest that Dorothy could have plenty of warmth and celebration alongside whatever dramatic turns await audiences.
For now, though, the wedding drums are beating, Keerthy Suresh is at the centre of the celebrations, and Ilaiyaraaja is ready to set the musical mood. August 22 is when the “Raaja Sambhavam” officially begins — and Dorothy already has its first reason to make some noise.
