Sharing his thoughts, Javed Akhtar said, “You see, songs are often part of the narrative. People frequently ask me, ‘Sir, what kind of songs are being made these days? Why don't we get songs like the ones in Pyaasa?’ I tell them, ‘Well, to get songs like those in Pyaasa, I would have to burn myself alive—so, they can't just happen.’ You need a story like Pyaasa for that. The songs are created to suit the specific situations within the story. I am truly happy and deeply grateful to our director, Santoshi-san, for sharing a script with such depth, emotion, and feeling. When a situation possesses emotional depth, it gives you the opportunity to write better songs. As for how well I utilized that opportunity—well, that is for you to decide, not me.”
The celebrated lyricist went on to express his confidence in the film's music while leaving the final judgment to audiences. “I like them, personally, but ultimately, you need to like them too. So, thank you very much. I am confident that Rahman-san’s music and these songs will stand out. I don't have the right to say whether they are ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ but they are certainly distinct—different from what you usually hear these days. Whether it’s the melody, the lyrics, or the vocal rendition, they are unique. And I believe people do want depth in songs—in the music, the melody, and the lyrics. So, I think people will appreciate them.”
