Anjum Rajabali, a prominent figure in the world of Indian cinema, has been a vocal advocate for fair pay and recognition for writers. His recent efforts have centered on establishing a new remuneration slab that ensures writers receive a minimum of 12 Lakhs for their work. This initiative reflects a broader movement within the entertainment industry to address the longstanding issue of undervaluing writers' contributions.

While interacting with Newshelpline during a recent SWA event in Mumbai, Anjum Rajabali talks about the new payment slab for writers, he said, “Right now we are struggling with the new slab, we’re trying to work it out, and reach a decisive moment where inflectional production houses admits and gets onboard with this new remuneration slab, the minimum for a writer should be 12 Lakhs, people can charge more, but that should be minimum”

Known for penning screenplay of Ghulam, Satyagraha, Chakravyuh, Aarakshan, Raajneeti, Apaharan and many more hit movies, Anjum also praised the involvement of media in this struggle.

Addressing the support of media, he said, “I will say this much that media has been supportive, media has taken the issues of writers, through SWA, they wrote about it, they asked the pertinent question and followed it through by publishing it, and we are grateful for it, and look forward to more constructive association with media.”

It is imperative that production houses and other industry stakeholders recognize the importance of fair pay for writers. A fair and transparent compensation structure not only benefits writers but also strengthens the creative ecosystem as a whole.
