After delivering back-to-back blockbusters with Gadar 2, Jaat, and Border 2, Sunny Deol is now turning the spotlight toward a deeply personal and emotional project—Gabru. While attending the success press meet of Border 2 alongside Varun Dhawan, Ahaan Shetty, Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, Medha Rana, Anurag Singh, Nidhi Dutta, and Bhushan Kumar, the veteran actor opened up about why Gabru holds a special place in his heart.

Speaking passionately about the film, Sunny Deol said, “Lahore 1947 will release on Independence day, than there is lovely film title Gabru, this one is really close to my heart, and it is possible that I might release Gabru before anything else, a limited release because this one is truly special for me, I love the film, I got to play such a character, which, its about all the people coming from small towns heading to big cities to become something, so the story of Gabru is about such a person, and after reaching the big city, how the city just consumes him, now he cannot go back to his village, because he just can’t, he came here to do something but something entirely different happened to him.”

The quote reveals the emotional depth of Gabru, a story that reflects the dreams and disillusionment of countless small-town youth who migrate to big cities in search of success. Unlike Sunny’s recent high-octane patriotic dramas, Gabru appears to be a grounded, character-driven narrative focusing on identity, ambition, and the emotional toll of chasing aspirations. The theme of being “consumed” by the city suggests a layered portrayal of struggle, vulnerability, and transformation.

Sunny further added, “It is a very emotional film. I guess I am doing the PR of the film right now during Border 2 promotion. But jokes apart, it will be definitely my next release.” His candid admission not only brought smiles at the press meet but also confirmed that Gabru is likely to hit screens sooner than expected, possibly even before Lahore 1947, albeit as a limited release.

Written and directed by Shashank Udapurkar, Gabru also stars Simran Bagga and Prit Kamani in pivotal roles. With Sunny Deol stepping into a role that explores the emotional fragility of ambition rather than the physical intensity of action, the film could mark a refreshing shift in his filmography. If his words are anything to go by, Gabru is not just another release—it is a story he deeply believes in, one that mirrors the silent struggles of dreamers across the country.
