After the untimely passing of his brother Wajid during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sajid Khan, of the iconic Sajid-Wajid duo, has been quietly channeling his energy into a new creative venture — Wasaka. In a recent conversation, Sajid revealed the story behind the name and the collaborative spirit that fuels the project, crediting his longtime friend and collaborator Salman Khan for the suggestion.
Sajid reflected on his bond with Salman, explaining, “Even today, we don't spend much time with Salman Bhai… but I can't because he has a different responsibility, you know, and I also have a different responsibility. And then we keep talking. He keeps calling me and asking. He needs to know that Sajid is okay. So, I think that's what keeps him happy.” The trust and friendship between the two clearly play a pivotal role in shaping Sajid’s decisions. “Sometimes, when I have some important decisions to make… I definitely take time out and call him and ask, ‘Bhai, can I meet him for a while?’ He said, ‘Tell me, what's the matter?’”
The idea for Wasaka emerged during one of these conversations. Sajid explained, “So we were just sitting there, joking around… I have this thought, and I want to take this game to the family and create a larger canvas, so that many people can see it.” The initiative is envisioned as a platform where veterans and talented individuals within his circle can contribute their expertise, creating a cycle of mentorship and collaboration. “Within my family, there are many talented people, veterans, who know this work very well, who can help with their hands… So, I'm ending their help, and they'll start helping others. So, that's how it will multiply. So, that's the idea.”
