Bollywood star Rani Mukerji is soaking in the massive success of Mardaani 3, and her joy is deeply personal. Speaking during the film’s success celebration, Rani delivered an emotional and heartfelt statement about the film’s theatrical run and what it means for women-led cinema.
“It was crucial that Mardaani 3 find success in cinema halls, the kind of love we are getting from the audience, I am happy for it, and we’re successfully running in the third weeks of films release, I am don’t think I am able express myself how happy I am,” she said.
She further added, “Because even a female-led film is finding love and appreciation, I guess it’s a good indication for our industry, because a lot more producers will be inspired to back such kind of movies, and write such stories, the film put a lot of emphasis on women-empowerment, especially women in uniform, so I think I have to salute people of India, and audiences, because of them we are able to have this success celebration.”
Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, the film has crossed 61.2 crore worldwide, surpassing the lifetime total of the original 2014 installment. The third chapter in the franchise sees Rani reprise her iconic role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, investigating the disappearance of 93 young girls — a storyline that highlights women’s safety and systemic crime.
More than just a box office milestone, Mardaani 3 has struck an emotional chord with audiences, especially women and young viewers, who have praised its strong message and gripping narrative. For Rani Mukerji, the film’s triumph is not just about numbers — it’s about shifting industry perception and proving that powerful, female-led stories deserve center stage.
