Rajeev Siddhartha, the actor who won hearts as Romil in Romil & Jugal and Mihir Shah in Amazon Prime Video’s Four More Shots Please!, opened up in a candid chat about the OTT boom, independent cinema, and his lifelong love for acting—and his words are pure gold for anyone curious about the behind-the-scenes of showbiz.
“It’s again such a nuanced take on this, then most actors, actresses, writers, directors—they would have had to choose either doing TV or film, right? And we know the pitfalls, how difficult it is to break through with just your talent. In that sense, OTT has given a really a boost to so many careers. Now, what’s happened unfortunately is the film… right, exactly, so it’s a mix,” Rajeev said, pointing to the seismic shift the digital space has created for Indian talent.
But while OTT offers exposure and guaranteed releases, Rajeev also highlighted the creative trade-offs: “Recently I shot for… I can’t speak much about it, but an independent film, very beautiful, very lovely film and lovely script. And because right now it isn’t associated with any OTT, we had the independence to play with the script as we liked it. Obviously, platforms are lovely in the sense they provide you a guaranteed release, right? But then also inputs which can sometimes dilute your creative process.”
He also reflected on the audition grind and the opportunities the digital boom has opened for new talent: “Platforms, yes, for actors you have to maybe audition or test, and then it comes down, but it’s fine. I mean, what else is there to do? Unless you become such a household name that they only want you. At least it has given so many opportunities to people, I feel.”
For Rajeev, acting is more than fame—it’s practice, passion, and theater: “For me, I also do theater side by side all the time. When I became an actor—when I took up the choice of becoming an actor—I am an introvert to the next level. I knew the only way I can get into acting and get roles is by becoming the best at what I do. How can you do that? By practicing every day. Theater is my practice and also I love it. In fact, I’m doing two plays right now. So for me, any opportunity to show my craft, I’ll do it. I just love acting. That’s the thing. Wherever I get a good opportunity, I’ll embrace it.”
From his debut in Dil Dosti Etc (2007) to hits like Jolly LLB, 24, and Love, Sitara, Rajeev’s journey reflects both versatility and grit. Off-screen, he recently confirmed his relationship with Four More Shots Please! co-star Kirti Kulhari via a New Year’s social media post, giving fans yet another reason to celebrate the actor they admire.
Rajeev’s words are a refreshing reminder that for many, talent and dedication matter more than limelight—and that sometimes, love for the craft is the biggest success of all.
