Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has addressed the controversy surrounding the teaser of his upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat, following widespread criticism of its title. The teaser, featuring Manoj Bajpayee in the titular role, had sparked online debates, with some netizens claiming that the word “Pandat” unfairly associates a particular caste with corruption and bribery.
In an official statement, Pandey clarified that Ghooskhor Pandat is a fictional cop drama, and the term “Pandat” refers only to a fictional character, not any real caste, religion, or community. He emphasized his commitment to storytelling with “a deep sense of responsibility,” noting that the film is intended purely for entertainment and should be understood in the full context of the narrative, rather than judged based on partial promotional content.
Acknowledging the concerns raised, Pandey confirmed that the film’s promotional materials have been temporarily taken down to allow audiences to experience the story as intended. “We understand that the title of the film has caused hurt to some viewers, and we genuinely acknowledge those feelings,” he said, stressing that the team’s intent was never to offend.
Directed by Ritesh Shah, Ghooskhor Pandat also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Divya Dutta, Shraddha Das, and Kiku Sharda. The teaser showcased Manoj Bajpayee’s strong presence as a morally complex cop, generating curiosity about the film’s plot, which explores choices, actions, and the grey areas of law enforcement.
