Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also returns as the lead, the film serves as a prequel to the surprise blockbuster Kantara (2022). While the first film stunned audiences with its visceral blend of folklore and modern conflict, Chapter 1 takes viewers even further back in time — to pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, during the reign of the Kadambas of Banavasi. The story promises to unravel the origins of the Bhuta Kola ritual, offering a deeper dive into the mythological roots of divine guardianship and man’s spiritual bond with nature.
In this chapter, Shetty transforms into a Naga Sadhu with superhuman powers, setting the tone for a more mystical, action-heavy narrative steeped in ancient lore.
