Janus Films has unveiled the official US trailer for Two Prosecutors, the latest masterwork from acclaimed Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa. The film, set in the USSR in 1937, tells the story of a newly appointed prosecutor who uncovers an undestroyed prisoner letter revealing corruption within the NKVD. The narrative follows the idealistic prosecutor, portrayed by Aleksandr Kuznetsov, as he attempts to expose the mistreatment of a dissident Bolshevik writer imprisoned and tortured without evidence. As he delves deeper, he realizes that such injustices are systemic under Stalin’s regime, placing him at personal risk for daring to pursue moral righteousness. Adapted from the novel by Soviet writer and political prisoner Georgy Demidov, Two Prosecutors (also known as Zwei Staatsanwälte in German) is a patient, scalpel-precise examination of the horrors of fascistic systems.
