For Jamie Lever, the applause she's receiving today isn't the result of overnight fame but years of persistence, learning and proving herself beyond the surname she carries. The comedian and actress, who has steadily built her own fan following through live performances, films and mimicry, recently reflected on her long journey while speaking about the success of The Jamie Lever Show. During the candid conversation, she also revealed the one lesson that legendary comedian Johnny Lever has repeated throughout her career—"Earn respect."

Speaking about finally having a comedy show in her own name, Jamie admitted that the moment still feels surreal. "It hasn't fully sunk in yet that this is actually happening, but ten years ago, my dad said that one day there would be shows held in my name. So, seeing that dream turn into reality today brings me immense happiness—truly immense," she said.

However, the comedian believes this is only another milestone and not the finish line. "It is extremely difficult, and it's not as if doing one show means you've 'won' or made it. We keep learning and working hard every single day, constantly trying to improve ourselves. That hard work is an ongoing process. It's a daily journey," Jamie added.

Despite being Johnny Lever's daughter, Jamie says she always wanted to establish herself through her own work. She credited her father for never asking her to rely on his legacy and instead encouraging her to build credibility from scratch. "Thank you for thinking that way. It took a lot of hard work—a journey spanning 12 years—to earn this respect. That's exactly what my dad told me from day one: 'Earn respect.' He said, 'We've provided you with every comfort and facility; now, just earn respect... and prove yourself through your work.' So, I focused on that."

The actress shared that one of the most emotional moments of her career came when veteran actress Jaya Bachchan attended her performance. "Today, Jaya Bachchan-ji came to my show in person—that is a huge deal for me," Jamie said.

Recalling the experience, she added, "She stayed for the entire show. She came to meet me during the interval. She praised me so much that I'm just overwhelmed; I feel so happy."

Jamie also revealed that while Johnny Lever wasn't present at that particular performance, he remains her biggest supporter. "He's already seen my show twice. I'm the one who tells him, 'Let it be for now.' But he keeps track of every update. He'll call my uncle and ask, 'How did it go?' Then he'll call my cousin. My brother and my mother come to every show, so he definitely stays fully informed."

Looking ahead, Jamie confirmed that audiences will soon see more of her across different platforms. "For now, I'm busy with work abroad. I'll be crafting jokes based on those experiences for the show—that's going to be really fun. And yes, I have a film coming up very soon. It's an out-and-out comedy, so you'll see me in a great role. Apart from that, I'm doing shows both in India and abroad. And, of course, you'll see me on social media."

After spending over a decade earning her place in the industry, Jamie Lever is proving that while opportunities may come from privilege, respect can only be earned through consistency, hard work and talent.
