Apple TV has unveiled the official trailer for Brothers, a new comedy series starring real-life best friends Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The eight-episode series takes their famously close friendship and turns it into an outrageous fictional story involving family secrets, identity crises and one very awkward question — what if the two friends are actually brothers?
The series is set to make its global debut on September 23, 2026, with the first two episodes arriving together. New episodes will then be released every Wednesday, with the season scheduled to conclude on November 4. The newly released trailer offers the first extended look at the bizarre situation that sends McConaughey and Harrelson’s fictionalised versions into complete chaos.
In Brothers, the two actors play heightened versions of themselves, drawing inspiration from a long-running real-life rumour surrounding their possible family connection. The series takes that unusual piece of pop-culture trivia and transforms it into a full-blown comedy premise.
The trouble begins when Woody’s family spends an extended period at Matthew’s Austin ranch. During their stay, Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, accidentally drops a bombshell that could change everything. She reveals a decades-old secret that suggests Matthew and Woody may actually be biological brothers.
Naturally, Woody cannot simply let the revelation go. The trailer shows him becoming increasingly obsessed with finding out whether the unbelievable claim could actually be true. His search for answers threatens to turn Matthew’s peaceful ranch into a chaotic investigation, with their friendship suddenly being tested by the possibility of a completely different family relationship.
While Woody is determined to uncover the truth, Matthew has an entirely different problem on his hands. Alongside dealing with the unexpected family revelation and his own identity crisis, his character is preparing for a potential run for Governor of Texas. Trying to manage politics, family secrets and Woody’s increasingly chaotic behaviour promises to make for some seriously entertaining situations.
The comedy also gets an extra boost from the chemistry between McConaughey and Harrelson. The two actors have been friends for decades and have previously shared the screen, most notably in True Detective. Their real-world familiarity gives Brothers an added layer, as the series essentially asks them to turn their own public personas and friendship into the punchline.
Holland Taylor appears to be another major source of comedy as Ma Mac, whose seemingly casual revelation sets the entire story in motion. The fact that such a potentially life-changing secret emerges almost accidentally makes the premise even more absurd.
The supporting cast includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan and Oona Yaffe. Together, they join the central trio to create a larger ensemble around the increasingly complicated family situation.
The series is showrun and executive produced by Lee Eisenberg, known for his work on The Office and Jury Duty. Trent O’Donnell directs the series, bringing together a creative team with plenty of experience in character-driven comedy.

The series takes a real-life friendship, a bizarre rumour and the public personalities of two major Hollywood stars and builds an entirely fictional comedy around them.
