Janus Films has unveiled the official trailer for the 4K restoration of Cronos, Guillermo del Toro’s debut feature, originally released in Mexico in 1992 and in the U.S. in 1994. The restored edition will play in select theaters starting December 31, 2025, beginning at the IFC Center in New York City, and is also available on 4K Blu-ray via the Criterion Collection.
Set in 1536 Veracruz, Mexico, during the Inquisition, Cronos tells the story of an alchemist who creates a mysterious golden device capable of granting eternal life. Centuries later, antiques dealer Jesús Gris (Federico Luppi) discovers the device, unleashing its addictive and dangerous powers. Gris soon becomes the target of the sinister American Angel, portrayed by Ron Perlman, as he struggles with the seductive promise of immortality.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Claudio Brook, Margarita Isabel, and Tamara Shanath, bringing depth to this darkly fantastical tale.
