Director and actor Chinmay Mandlekar has shared a powerful tribute to veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee while speaking about their collaboration on the upcoming historical thriller Governor: The Silent Saviour.
In a heartfelt reflection, Chinmay Mandlekar said, “I have said this many times, and I will say it again: Mr. Manoj Bajpayee is the reason why so many people from my generation have taken up acting as a profession. Yes, because while we have always admired great actors—we have been fans of Mr. Bachchan and other greats of the industry—when Satya was released in '98, I was in college. And I know many people who would say the exact same thing—especially those from the theater world—that when they saw Bhiku Mhatre on screen, that was the moment they truly believed: "If a boy from Bihar can do this, then I can do this too." That is the legacy Mr. Manoj Bajpayee has bestowed upon our entire generation. So, to have had the opportunity to work with him—not just once, but twice—I thank my stars and my God for granting me that privilege.”
“I was particularly delighted that the first film we did together was a zany comedy. And the second film—which we worked on within a span of just a few months (as we started production within that short timeframe)—featured a completely different character, a different genre, and a distinct texture.”
“A great deal of credit for this goes to Vipul Sir; when he first handed me the script, my immediate reaction was: "This film simply must be made for the theatrical experience." Because, nowadays, one often observes that if a film addresses a social issue or is based on reality, it tends to be released on streaming platforms. However, it was Vipul Sir's vision that this particular story belonged on the big screen. And I am deeply grateful to him that—come hell or high water—he stood firm and remained steadfast in his vision” added Chinmay.
The film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and also features Adah Sharma, Madhoo Shah, and Noushad Mohamed Kunju in key roles.
Governor: The Silent Saviour is set during India’s 1990–1991 economic crisis and follows a fictionalized version of RBI Governor S. Venkitaramanan, played by Manoj Bajpayee, as he navigates a high-stakes national emergency involving a secret gold airlift operation aimed at preventing financial collapse.
With its intense subject matter, period backdrop, and strong performances, the film is gearing up for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
