Netflix surprised audiences during the Super Bowl with a striking 60-second TV trailer for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a spin-off from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The brief but impactful preview offered an impressive first look at the film, which wrapped filming just a few months ago. Styled with a grainy, scratched-up aesthetic and deliberate censor marks embedded into the footage, the teaser instantly evoked a raw, throwback vibe that feels both nostalgic and unsettling.
Set roughly eight years after the events of the original 1969-set film, the story moves into the late 1970s — a darker, more cynical phase of Hollywood history. Brad Pitt reprises his Oscar-winning role as Cliff Booth, now older and operating as a behind-the-scenes fixer for film studios. In this morally murky role, Cliff helps make scandals, secrets, and inconvenient problems quietly disappear as the industry sheds its hippie-era innocence.
While the screenplay is penned by Quentin Tarantino, the directorial reins have been handed to David Fincher, marking an intriguing creative crossover. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and obsession with psychological darkness, Fincher brings his signature tone to the project, making this his third consecutive Netflix feature after Mank and The Killer.
The film boasts a formidable ensemble cast, including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Carla Gugino, Timothy Olyphant, Holt McCallany, Lauren Glazier, Peter Weller, and Scott Caan. Behind the camera, cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt reunites with Fincher, ensuring the film maintains the director’s trademark precision and atmospheric tension. Although Netflix has yet to announce an official release date, The Adventures of Cliff Booth is expected to arrive in summer 2026.
