Aamir Khan Productions has officially unveiled the first-look character posters of its much-awaited historical drama Batwara 1947, while also confirming the film's theatrical release date as August 14, 2026. Directed and written by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India and promises an emotionally charged story of courage, survival, and displacement during one of the most defining moments in the subcontinent's history.

The newly released posters introduce the film's principal characters through a series of striking visuals. Shabana Azmi's poster captures her peering intensely through an ornate wooden doorway, conveying fear, uncertainty, and resilience. Sunny Deol's powerful first look reflects strength and determination amid turmoil, while Preity Zinta appears in a dramatic close-up portrait, her expression hinting at the emotional scars left by the events of 1947. Karan Deol's rugged appearance against a backdrop of chaos and fire further emphasizes the film's intense narrative.

Additional character posters reveal Ali Fazal in a contemplative profile shot, suggesting an emotionally layered role, while Abhimanyu Singh's stern and commanding look adds another intriguing dimension to the ensemble. The film also stars Khushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur in key roles, bringing together a cast that blends veteran performers with a new generation of talent.

Batwara 1947 marks a significant reunion between Sunny Deol and filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, the duo behind iconic films such as Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak. Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the project carries an impressive creative pedigree. The film's music has been composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, while acclaimed playwright Asghar Wajahat has contributed the dialogues, adding further depth and authenticity to the storytelling.

Previously announced under the working title Lahore 1947, the film was officially renamed Batwara 1947 earlier this month. With its stellar cast, acclaimed creative team, and a story rooted in one of history's most significant chapters, the film is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2026. As the countdown to August 14 begins, audiences can expect a powerful cinematic exploration of loss, hope, and humanity in extraordinary times.
