On Sunday, veteran actor Anupam Kher took to his X profile to share a moving tribute to legendary filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya on his 62nd birthday. Alongside a video of an intimate celebration, Kher wrote a long note that beautifully captured Barjatya’s unwavering commitment to wholesome cinema. He began, “Happy Birthday, dearest Sooraj Barjatya. In your own quiet, dignified way, you are truly a national treasure. The kind of films you choose to make — filled with values, relationships, faith, and goodness — very few even dare to attempt today.”

Kher’s tribute emphasized the rare consistency and grace that Barjatya has maintained in a constantly changing film industry. “From the days of #Saaransh to the film you are making now, I have had the privilege of watching your journey up close. And what a journey it has been — consistent, graceful, and rooted in conviction,” Kher wrote. He reflected on knowing Barjatya personally as knowing kindness, compassion, honesty, and happiness.

The attached video shows Kher emotionally pinning a small golden miniature of India on Barjatya’s shirt, symbolizing how Barjatya’s films preserve the cultural soul of the nation. Kher explained, “Because the stories you tell, the emotions you preserve, and the values you celebrate represent the very soul of our country. It is my symbolic way of saying — you carry India in your cinema, and in your heart.” The gesture resonated with fans, earning over 45,000 views and heartfelt comments praising Barjatya’s contributions to cinema.

Kher further highlighted Barjatya’s steadfast dedication to meaningful storytelling amid an industry that often prioritizes spectacle over substance. “In an industry that constantly changes itself, you have remained steadfast in your belief that goodness works. And that belief has touched millions of hearts,” he noted. His message also expressed gratitude for their personal bond: “Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for being one of my favourite directors. And thank you for reminding us that cinema can still be pure.”

Barjatya’s cinematic journey began with the 1989 classic Maine Pyar Kiya and includes timeless family epics like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, which not only earned ₹135 crore but also revived Bollywood’s musical romance genre. Kher, who debuted in 1984 with Saaransh, shared a unique perspective on witnessing Barjatya’s rise and the values his films uphold.
The note concluded with heartfelt blessings: “God bless you with health, happiness, and many more beautiful stories. #HappyBirthdaySooraj.” Through Kher’s words and gesture, the celebration became more than just a birthday—it was a recognition of Barjatya’s role in shaping Indian cinema with stories rooted in love, family, and culture.

Even decades into his career, Barjatya’s films remain a testament to cinema that values relationships and moral storytelling. Kher’s tribute underscores that while trends come and go, true cinematic artistry—anchored in conviction and values—leaves an enduring mark on audiences and the nation alike.
