Prime Video has officially lifted the curtain on Don’t Be Shy, a coming-of-age romantic comedy backed by Bollywood star Alia Bhatt and her sister Shaheen Bhatt. Dropping a quirky announcement video, the streamer captioned it, “Is kahaani mein sab kuch hai. Romance hai. Heartbreak hai. Gaane hai. Girls, boys, aur ek turtle bhi!” — instantly setting the tone for a youthful, emotional and slightly chaotic ride.
The film is being produced by Alia and Shaheen Bhatt under their banner Eternal Sunshine Productions, in collaboration with Prime Video. Co-produced by Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani, Don’t Be Shy marks another step in Alia’s growing journey as a producer focused on fresh, female-forward stories that resonate with younger audiences.
Written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji, the film follows the story of Shyamili ‘Shy’ Das, a 20-year-old who believes she has her life perfectly planned. However, things take an unexpected turn, sending her carefully curated world into a spiral of romance, heartbreak, confusion and self-discovery—classic coming-of-age chaos, with a modern twist.
What makes Don’t Be Shy stand out is its strong, relatable voice. The narrative promises honest storytelling, humour rooted in everyday emotions, and characters that feel real rather than larger-than-life. The film leans into a female perspective without being preachy, capturing the awkward, emotional and often funny process of growing up.
