Actor Shreyas Talpade is stepping into a serious and socially relevant space with his upcoming film The India Story, a socio-political courtroom drama that aims to raise important questions about health, food safety, and environmental concerns. In a recent media interaction, the actor opened up about what drew him towards the project and why he believes the film carries a strong sense of responsibility.

Shreyas, who plays the role of Yogesh Patil in the film, said the responsibility attached to the subject was one of the biggest reasons he decided to be part of the project. Talking about his career choices and the selective films he has been associated with, including Iqbal and Om Shanti Om, the actor explained that a powerful issue needs an equally powerful story to connect with audiences.

"Exactly—that word you used, 'responsibility'—I think that was one of the key factors I considered for this project. But beyond that, I believe any issue only becomes truly effective when it is woven into a compelling story," Shreyas said.

He further explained that The India Story is not just about presenting facts but about showing the emotional impact of these issues through human relationships. "The story portraying this issue is deeply sensitive and emotional; it revolves around a father-daughter relationship and how a single event disrupts a happy, thriving family. Many people in our country have gone through this, and many still are. To prevent others from facing the same fate, it is crucial to discuss this issue and raise questions about it," he added.

The actor revealed that the research material shared with him before the film left him shocked. "When the story, the issue, the facts, the research, the videos, and the articles were shared with me, they weren't just frightening—they were truly shocking. The 'slow poison' that has seeped into our system over the years needs to be stopped now," Shreyas said.

Speaking about the concerns highlighted in the film, Shreyas pointed towards increasing health challenges and questioned why society has started accepting serious illnesses as normal. "We are seeing diseases like cancer—there are places like Haryana, or the 'Cancer Belt' regions; there is a train leaving Bathinda at night that is actually known as the 'Cancer Train,' and villages in Kasaragod where children are born with deformities. As a country, we need to answer these questions: What is this? Why is it happening? What must we do to stop it?"

Directed by Chettan DK and written and produced by Sagar B. Shinde, The India Story explores a sensitive subject through the format of a courtroom drama. Presented by Zee Studios in association with MIG Productions & Studios, the film stars Kajal Aggarwal as Advocate Archana, Shreyas Talpade as Yogesh Patil, Manish Wadhwa, Murali Sharma, and Trisha Sarda.

Shreyas also highlighted the efforts of individuals working towards accountability and change. "At the very least, a beginning has been made—and the work Tukaram Mundhe is doing in Maharashtra today represents the start of that process. People are very happy and relieved that there is someone holding others accountable. So, we simply need to assist him in whatever way possible; this is our way of expressing ourselves and making a statement," he said.

Scheduled for theatrical release on July 24, 2026, The India Story will release globally in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Through the film, Shreyas hopes audiences not only watch a courtroom drama but also engage with questions that affect everyday life.
