Actor Medha Shankr, best known for her breakout in 12th Fail, shared her thoughts on the evolving landscape of romantic comedies while attending the trailer launch of Ginny Weds Sunny 2 in Mumbai alongside co-star Avinash Tiwary. The actress emphasized the need to bring back heartfelt, family-friendly rom-coms that resonate across generations.
“I genuinely feel—just as was mentioned earlier—that there aren't enough films out there that families can sit down and watch together,” Medha said, echoing concerns about the shift in Bollywood storytelling. She further added, “I also feel that there has been a slight shift in mindset, a notion that contemporary rom-coms must be strictly ‘Bandra-Juhu’ chic—ultra-modern narratives where apps like Bumble and Tinder drive the plot. But in reality, even Gen Z—the newest generation—is still yearning for that ‘old-school’ kind of love.”
Highlighting the emotional core of relationships, Medha elaborated, “They are still looking for family involvement within their relationships. At heart, we all desire a wholesome relationship—the kind we’ve witnessed others living out in the past, the kind that endures right to the very end. That is precisely why I believe we need to produce more and more romantic comedies—films just like ours. Our rom-com tells a deeply relatable story; it is a truly charming love story that features significant family involvement.”
She concluded with optimism about audience reception, saying, “It is the kind of film that makes you think, ‘You know what? Forget all this modern dating app stuff—this is what I want. This is the kind of love I’m looking for.’ So, I think—and I hope—that audiences will truly recognize and appreciate that sentiment.” Her words reflect a growing demand for stories that balance romance with warmth, nostalgia, and family values.
Directed by Prasshant Jha and produced by Vinod Bachchan, Ginny Weds Sunny 2 promises a lively mix of romance, marital chaos, and family drama set against the scenic backdrop of Mussoorie.
