Sony Pictures Classics has officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for the indie drama sensation Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty!, offering audiences a vibrant and emotional glimpse into Tokyo’s competitive ballroom dance world. Led by acclaimed actress Rinko Kikuchi, the film blends romance, grief and self-discovery against the dazzling backdrop of dance culture.
The story follows Haru, also known as Ha-Chan, and her partner Luis, who are passionate competitors in Tokyo’s ballroom dance scene. Their lives are shattered after a devastating tragedy pushes Haru into deep isolation and emotional withdrawal. Struggling with grief, she distances herself from the dance world she once loved and cuts herself off from those closest to her.
Things begin to change when Haru’s friends encourage her to return to the dance studio. There, she encounters a charismatic new instructor named Fedir, played by Alberto Guerra. As the two grow closer, Haru finds herself caught between lingering pain and the possibility of emotional healing through connection, passion and dance.
The teaser has already caught attention online for its colourful visuals, emotionally charged atmosphere and stylish ballroom choreography.
