Actor Ashwin Dhar has addressed the growing social media buzz calling him “Shah Rukh 2.0” due to his striking resemblance to superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The comparison, which began as memes and fan edits, quickly turned into a viral trend, placing the rising actor in an unexpected spotlight following the massive success of his recent film.
Speaking about the sudden attention, Ashwin reacted with humility and gratitude, fully embracing the comparisons while acknowledging the stature of Shah Rukh Khan in Indian cinema. He said, "Well, first and foremost, I attribute it entirely to grace. Absolutely. Shah Rukh is a colossal superstar—a truly immense actor. He has been a part of the industry for the past 30 or 35 years—perhaps even longer—and he has truly established himself as the Shah Rukh Khan. And suddenly, to be placed on the same pedestal as Shah Rukh Khan—even if it’s just through memes, or even if people are merely comparing our costumes—the fact remains that it has all gone viral.”
“I consider myself incredibly fortunate that, out of nowhere, I am being bracketed alongside Shah Rukh; that conversations are revolving around this comparison, and that memes are being created. It is truly overwhelming. I mean, I feel so lucky—you know? It brings me such immense joy—such profound happiness—to see people comparing me in this manner. For an actor, it is simply overwhelming. Given the kind of person Shah Rukh is, and the caliber of actor he represents, being associated with him in this way is a matter of great pride and happiness. It is absolutely phenomenal—phenomenal for an artist" added Ashwin.
The actor’s rising popularity comes on the back of the high-octane action thriller Dhurandhar The Revenge, directed and written by Aditya Dhar. The film features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan, among others.
The film’s storyline follows an undercover Indian intelligence agent navigating dangerous criminal networks in Karachi while uncovering political conspiracies and seeking justice linked to the 26/11 attacks. Its gripping narrative and large-scale action sequences have helped it become one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
Adding to its phenomenal run, Dhurandhar The Revenge has reportedly crossed massive box office milestones, earning over 1000 crore worldwide in its opening week and eventually grossing around 1700 crore globally. With this, it has secured its place as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time, further amplifying attention on its cast.
As discussions around Ashwin Dhar continue to grow, the actor’s viral “Shah Rukh 2.0” tag has only added to the film’s cultural footprint, making him one of the most unexpectedly talked-about breakout names of the season.
