Actor and writer Aditya Rawal may have already made a mark with his performances and writing credits, but he’s in no rush to step behind the camera just yet. The son of veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat, Aditya is steadily carving his own path in the industry, balancing both acting and writing while keeping direction on the horizon.

Having earned recognition for his performances in films like Faraaz and his debut in Bamfaad, along with writing credits for Panipat, Aditya has built a strong creative foundation. His recent work in darker, more intense roles in projects like Subedaar and Daldal (2026) has further showcased his versatility as a performer.

During a recent media interaction, Aditya was asked about the possibility of moving into direction, especially given his background and experience across multiple facets of filmmaking. While acknowledging the interest, he made it clear that he wants to take his time before making that leap. He said, “It’s still a bit early. I don’t think I’ll be taking that up for at least another five to seven years. The thing is, there are two factors involved—well, actually three. First, you need to possess sufficient knowledge about every single department—not necessarily so that you are the one providing solutions for every specific area, but rather so that when your Heads of Department—say, the Costume Designer, Production Designer, or Cinematographer—come to you, you are able to discern what constitutes a good solution versus a poor one, even if the solutions are being proposed by them, You know? That is a level of expertise I don’t quite possess yet; that will come with experience. The second factor is emotional maturity. When you have a hundred people constantly turning to you and asking, "So, what do we do?"—for instance, asking, "Hey, should this bucket be blue or red?"...”

Aditya further elaborated on the challenges of leadership and the responsibility that comes with directing a film, adding, “If you, yourself don't know the answer—if you lack the clarity to answer your own questions—then providing answers to the questions of a hundred other people becomes quite a challenge. Or, perhaps, the difficulty lies in being able to accept—or admit—that you simply don't know the answer. So, I believe that kind of emotional maturity will also develop with time. And thirdly, since I already have two careers running simultaneously—as a writer and as an actor—I feel that to take on the role of a director, you essentially have to drop everything else and dedicate yourself entirely to a single project for at least a year or a year and a half. You know? So, that isn't something I'm looking to do right now; I am, in fact, just beginning my journey as a writer and an actor. Therefore, for the time being, I would much rather focus on learning more and progressing along these specific paths than thinking about directing. That said, I do feel that—perhaps—I will definitely give it a shot sometime in the future.”

Aditya’s thoughtful approach highlights his commitment to craft over rushing into new roles. At a time when many young actors are quick to expand their portfolios, he is choosing patience and preparation, ensuring that when he does step into direction, he does so with clarity and confidence.

For now, audiences can expect to see more of Aditya Rawal the actor and writer, as he continues to explore complex roles and compelling narratives. And when he eventually takes the director’s chair, it’s clear it will be with a vision shaped by years of experience and learning.
