Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming Anaconda remake — but this isn't your typical creature horror reboot. Directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), the film flips the 1997 cult classic on its head, transforming it into a meta action-comedy starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black as two childhood best friends who set out to remake their favorite movie — only to discover that the jungle has other plans.
In the film, Rudd and Black play Griff and Doug, two guys spiraling into a midlife crisis who decide to film their own version of Anaconda deep in the Amazon. What starts as a hilarious low-budget homage quickly turns into a waking nightmare when a real, enormous anaconda slithers onto the scene. The film’s trailer shows the comedic duo facing absurd production disasters, arguing over script rewrites, and eventually running for their lives when their passion project becomes a very real fight for survival.
Supporting the chaos is a solid cast of comedic and dramatic talent including Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello. The trailer teases a blend of slapstick humor, nostalgic throwbacks, and jungle-set action, all layered with the kind of self-aware silliness that fans of Tropic Thunder or Snakes on a Plane will likely appreciate. With Rudd’s signature charm and Black’s unmatched comedic timing, Anaconda (2025) leans all the way into parody territory.
Set for release on December 25, 2025, the film is clearly designed as a holiday-season crowd-pleaser, offering audiences something different from the usual Christmas fare. Whether it becomes a cult hit or collapses under its own campy concept remains to be seen — but one thing’s certain: Anaconda is back, and this time, it’s laughing with you.
