The entertainment world is seeing a striking shift as Eisha Singh steps away from her familiar romantic and “cute” on-screen image to embrace something far darker and more intense. Her latest film Obsess marks a powerful transition into psychological horror and thriller territory, proving she is ready to experiment beyond comfort zones. The film has already generated buzz for its unconventional storytelling and multilingual release across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.

Directed by Peter Wilson, the independent project brings together a strong creative team including Jagraj Motion Pictures, Peter Wilson Entertainment, Rajinder Gill, and Jagdish Singh. The film positions itself as a gripping psychological experience rather than a typical commercial entertainer, making it a fresh entry in India’s growing thriller space. For Eisha, this isn’t just another role—it’s a reinvention.

Speaking about breaking stereotypes and choosing the project, Eisha Singh shared: “I mean, there was a prevailing stereotype that such a cute girl could only play cute roles. But you have completely shattered that perception. What would you like to say about that? And how did you decide to say 'yes' to this project? Because it is something entirely different. I had never done anything like this before. There is no romance; there is no 'cuteness.' It has everything except for those things! [Laughs] I had never done a thriller before. It was a very different genre for me. More than that, the story itself was so good. It was something unique—something off the beaten path. I found it quite interesting. So I said, "Why not? Let's just do it."”

She also opened up about the emotional intensity of such roles, adding: “I think we don't always realize it, but as an actor—whenever you portray a character (and not just this specific one)—it leaves a mark on you. That can be a good thing; however, if that 'cut' becomes too deep, you need to know how to heal it. That is where your maturity and self-awareness come into play—because you get so deeply immersed in the role. Right now, it is Isha speaking to you. But if Sara were the one speaking right now, she would still be fully inhabiting that character. You understand? I am playing someone else entirely. So, inevitably, it leaves a scar on you. During many of the scenes, I would get so deeply absorbed that I would feel, "No, I need to pull myself out of this." I think that is simply part of the process of being an actor. That is precisely what makes it so enjoyable and fulfilling. But, to maintain your mental equilibrium and stay on the right track, you need to know exactly when to switch on—and when to switch off.”

With Obsess, Eisha Singh is clearly signaling a new phase in her career—one where she is willing to take risks, challenge stereotypes, and explore emotionally demanding storytelling. As audiences step into theatres to experience this psychological thriller, her transformation from television favourite to intense cinematic performer might just become one of the most talked-about shifts of the year.
