The makers of 29 The Film have officially called it a wrap—and in the most poetic way possible. G Squad’s official handle dropped a high-energy wrap-up video announcing the completion of the film’s shoot on January 29, 2026, perfectly syncing the date with the film’s title. The caption read, “Wrapping #29TheFilm on the 29th… Ours ends here, so yours can begin soon,” confirming a Spring 2026 theatrical release.
Written and directed by Rathna Kumar, 29 is jointly produced by Lokesh Kanagaraj’s G Squad and Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Productions, led by producer Kaarthikeyan S. The wrap announcement instantly caught attention for its symbolic timing and celebratory tone, making it more than just another shoot completion update.
The wrap video itself is a visual treat. Shot during a vibrant nighttime celebration, it captures fireworks lighting up the sky, dancing crew members, clapperboard moments and a festive atmosphere reminiscent of a Pongal celebration. Temple-like backdrops and pulsating energy gave fans a sneak peek into the film’s rooted, emotional vibe—without revealing too much.
The film stars Vidhu as Sathya and Preethi Asrani as Viji in the lead roles, supported by an ensemble cast that includes Master Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima and Premkumar. Musically, the film is powered by Sean Roldan, with cinematography by Madhesh Manickam and editing by RS Sathish Kumar, assembling a strong technical team.
Adding a touch of tradition to the milestone, the team celebrated the shoot wrap with a ceremonial pumpkin-crushing ritual (Poosanikaaaa Day) along with a special cake-cutting ceremony. The blend of cultural symbolism and modern celebration perfectly matched the film’s tone.
Described as a personal romantic entertainer, 29 The Film draws inspiration from Rathna Kumar’s own life experiences at the age of 29 and is set in a pre-dating app era, promising old-school romance with emotional depth. Expected to release in Tamil and Telugu around February or March 2026, the journey of 29 may have wrapped—but for audiences, it’s only just beginning.
