At the prestigious WAVES Summit 2025, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled a transformative initiative—the launch of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT). Designed to revolutionize India’s creative ecosystem, IICT aims to serve as a national hub for the AVGC-XR sector—Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality—placing India at the forefront of digital content innovation.
The IICT will work closely with leading global tech and media giants, reflecting a clear vision to build India’s capabilities in high-end digital content and immersive technologies. The project underscores the government’s commitment to not only developing talent but also creating infrastructure that will enable India to become a global content powerhouse.
The first phase of the institute has already commenced at the NFDC Building on Pedder Road, Mumbai, offering a central location for initial operations, workshops, and training. The second phase will involve a major expansion, with the creation of a dedicated 10-acre campus in Film City, Goregaon, providing world-class facilities, production labs, and research centers for cutting-edge innovation in AVGC-XR.
This landmark announcement is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader vision of transforming India into a global creative economy leader. The IICT will act as a bridge between young creative talent and international platforms, ensuring India plays a central role in shaping the future of immersive storytelling and digital entertainment.
