Ranveer Singh is all set to take audiences into an entirely new cinematic world as his ambitious survival spectacle ‘Pralay’ has officially gone on floors today in Mumbai. Produced by Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios, True Story Films and Maa Kasam Films, and directed by Jai Mehta, the film promises to explore the terrifying possibility of an end-of-the-world catastrophe while keeping its story rooted in the human instinct to survive. With the makers aiming for a massive theatrical experience, Pralay is already shaping up as one of the most ambitious upcoming projects in Indian cinema.

Headlined by Ranveer Singh, Pralay marks the actor’s next major motion picture after Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar – The Revenge. The new film once again sees Ranveer stepping into unfamiliar territory, this time leading an action thriller built around survival, courage and humanity’s fight against an unimaginable crisis. Apart from playing the central character, Ranveer is also serving as a producer, making the project an especially significant addition to his career.

The film brings together an exciting creative team, with Jai Mehta taking charge as director. Known for his work on Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, which he co-directed with Hansal Mehta, as well as Lootere, Jai brings a grounded storytelling approach to a film that is expected to operate on a much larger scale. The cast also features Lokah breakout star Kalyani Priyadarshan in a pivotal role, adding another promising performer to the survival drama.

For producer Ananya Birla, Pralay represents an ambition to push the boundaries of mainstream Indian cinema by bringing together fresh creative voices and a story designed for a large-scale theatrical experience. Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal’s True Story Films are also backing the project, with the film reflecting their focus on disruptive and content-driven storytelling. The collaboration has brought together technical and creative talent from India and across the world for a project that has reportedly been in intensive pre-production for several months.

Interestingly, Pralay will use Mumbai and its surrounding live locations as a major part of its visual world. Instead of relying entirely on controlled environments, the makers are shooting across real locations to bring greater physicality, texture and realism to a city facing an unimaginable threat. The story aims to combine large-scale spectacle with an emotionally grounded narrative, placing its characters at the centre of a world that is rapidly falling apart.

With cameras now rolling, the makers are preparing to take audiences on a relentless journey where survival becomes the only goal. ‘The world as you know it will end in Pralay’ is the central promise behind the film, setting the stage for a story about what people are willing to do when everything familiar begins to disappear. With Ranveer Singh leading the charge, Jai Mehta behind the camera and an ambitious production scale, Pralay could mark a bold new chapter for survival cinema in India.
