Producer Rakesh Dang has offered a candid assessment of Welcome to the Jungle, refusing to label the film a blockbuster despite its strong box-office performance. During an exclusive media interaction, Dang opened up about his experience of making the film and what it meant for him as he stepped further into the world of full-time film production. While the producer admitted that the film performed brilliantly and recovered its investment, he was clear that he would describe it as a solid hit rather than a massive blockbuster. For Dang, however, the biggest takeaway was the confidence the project gave him to move forward with his next film.
Asked to sum up his experience with Welcome to the Jungle in one word, Dang said, “If I had to sum up Welcome to the Jungle in one word... it was a great experience for me. It gave me a lot of confidence, and now I’m ready to jump into the next film. So, I’d sum it up as ‘confidence for success.’” His answer makes it clear that the film’s impact on him went beyond the box-office numbers. Having invested considerable effort into the project, Dang sees the experience as an important foundation for his journey as a producer.
However, when the conversation turned to whether he considered Welcome to the Jungle a blockbuster, Dang was quick to correct the description. “Well, I can't strictly call it a ‘blockbuster’ success—to me, success simply means completing the work. It performed brilliantly at the box office; it was a solid hit—not a massive blockbuster, but a hit film,” he said. Rather than chasing the biggest possible label, Dang chose to focus on the more tangible outcome: the film recovered its investment and delivered a return.
The producer further explained why he believes calling the film a blockbuster would not be accurate. “You call me a humble producer... well, if speaking the truth is humility, then yes. But the reality is, it wasn't a blockbuster; it was just a good film where the money was recovered—you got a return on your investment—plus I gained a lot of experience and built a foundation,” Dang said. His straightforward assessment stands out at a time when films and their makers are often quick to celebrate box-office milestones, making his comments particularly candid.
For Dang, Welcome to the Jungle also represented something personally significant: recognition for his work as a producer.
