In a moment that blended nostalgia, cinematic history, and pure emotion, Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a stunning bronze statue of their beloved characters Raj and Simran from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge at London’s Leicester Square. The unveiling commemorates 30 years of the legendary Yash Raj Films classic that has shaped generations of movie lovers across the globe.

The statue the first ever dedicated to an Indian film at Leicester Square joins the prestigious Scenes in the Square trail, standing alongside cultural giants like Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Paddington, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

Shah Rukh Khan marked the occasion with a jubilant message on Instagram, sharing photos from the ceremony with Kajol. In his words:“Bade Bade Deshon Mein, Aisi Chhoti Chhoti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hain, Senorita!Thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj & Simran at London’s Leicester Square today, celebrating 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)! Incredibly delighted that DDLJ is the first Indian film to be honoured with a statue in the Scenes in the Square trail..A big thank you to everyone in the UK for making this possible.Come meet Raj & Simran if and when you are in London… we would love to see you make more memories with DDLJ…”

Despite the cold London drizzle, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol lit up Leicester Square with their warmth and charm. SRK looked effortlessly sharp in a classic black suit, while Kajol stunned in an elegant mint-green saree. Fans were left ecstatic as the duo recreated their timeless DDLJ poses in front of the statue—an unforgettable moment for onlookers who had waited decades to witness such magic again.

The bronze sculpture captures Raj and Simran in one of the film’s most recognizable frames, immortalizing their love story in the very city that played a pivotal role in the movie. Leicester Square itself features in one of the early scenes of DDLJ, where the two characters unknowingly cross paths—a subtle but fitting connection that makes the location symbolic and sentimental.

Since its release in 1995, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has become more than just a film—it’s a cultural phenomenon. The movie continues to run in Mumbai's Maratha Mandir, holds the record as the longest-running film in Hindi cinema, and remains a cinematic introduction to romance for countless fans.

The statue’s unveiling during its 30th anniversary serves as a reminder of how DDLJ bridged continents, cultures, and generations. For fans of Indian cinema worldwide, the statue is not just an installation—it’s a celebration of love, storytelling, and the enduring power of Bollywood. As visitors gather around Raj and Simran’s immortalized moment, Leicester Square now holds a piece of India’s cinematic heart.

And as Shah Rukh Khan beautifully reminded us,
“Come meet Raj & Simran if and when you are in London… we would love to see you make more memories with DDLJ…” A new chapter begins—one where London becomes a pilgrimage site for DDLJ lovers across the world.
