Riding high on the success of the epic devotional film Kannappa, director Mukesh Kumar Singh has opened up about his experience working with superstar Prabhas, who plays Rudra—a divine incarnation—in the film.

Sharing behind-the-scenes moments, Singh said, “The first time I went to meet Prabhas, prior to the shoot of Kannappa, it was a formal type of meeting. He talks less, at least that was my experience, and he was on the sets for a brief time. When he came for shooting, his first shot was the eye shot from the teaser—he looked ferocious. I told him, ‘No sir, this character is like a father, a Guru.’ And instantly, he grasped it and changed his approach. Though his screen time is just 15 minutes, he’s so powerful and majestic.”

Singh went on to praise Prabhas' godly screen presence and humble nature off-screen. “The godly appearance that character needed—he has it. And in personal life, he’s that simple and sorted person. He gives his shot and sits down right there, doesn’t use vanity vans. In New Zealand, we worked in tents, and he never complained—danced in the rain, had a gala time. Even in India, he’d just sit with his chair on set, and without needing a call, he’d start shooting. He never complains about time; he’ll wait until the job is done,” Singh recalled.

The director further emphasized Prabhas' professionalism, drawing comparisons to Akshay Kumar. “There is no air about him. The entire time we shot, he was on set continuously. If he had to go for a bathroom break, he would inform you and be back in two minutes. Akshay Kumar is also like that in Bollywood. On the first day, we shot for 8 hours without a break. On the second day, in the evening, he politely asked, ‘Can I take a bathroom break?’” Singh said, highlighting the actor’s rare blend of discipline and humility.

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and penned by Vishnu Manchu, Kannappa is a grand mythological epic that traces the journey of a tribal warrior who becomes one of Lord Shiva’s most devoted followers. Produced by Mohan Babu, the film features an ensemble cast including Vishnu Manchu, Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and Preity Mukundhan. More than a visual spectacle, Kannappa is, as Singh describes it, “a journey of faith, fate, and divine orchestration”—made all the more memorable by Prabhas’ presence on and off screen.
