Paramount Pictures has released the first official trailer for Roofman, a stranger-than-fiction heist drama from acclaimed filmmaker Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines). Based on the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger who gained infamy for robbing McDonald's restaurants by entering through holes in their roofs, the film stars Channing Tatum in one of his most dramatic and complex roles to date. Roofman is slated to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
The trailer teases a gripping blend of dark humor, suspense, and emotional depth. Tatum plays Manchester, a desperate father turned criminal mastermind whose military precision turns him into a modern-day folk antihero. After escaping from prison, Manchester astonishingly hides out inside a Toys “R” Us store for six months—living undetected while plotting his next robbery. Things take a turn when he falls in love with Leigh, played by Kirsten Dunst, a divorced mother unaware of the double life he’s leading.
Joining the star-studded cast are Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Uzo Aduba, Peter Dinklage, Melonie Diaz, Jimmy O. Yang, and newcomer Lily Collias, adding depth and tension to a story already loaded with real-world intrigue. The screenplay, co-written by Cianfrance and Kirt Gunn, is character-driven and emotionally grounded, even as it weaves an increasingly surreal crime saga. The film marks a return to form for Cianfrance, who is known for his emotionally raw storytelling and morally complex protagonists.
Roofman is shaping up to be one of the most unique entries in the fall awards season lineup, blurring the line between true crime and psychological drama. With Tatum taking on a role that pushes his acting range and Cianfrance at the helm, the film promises a poignant, suspenseful, and at times darkly funny take on one of the most bizarre criminal legends in recent American history.
