Bollywood actor and Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut has recently spoken out strongly against the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) that alters her photos without consent. Known for her bold and straightforward approach, Kangana took to Instagram to express her frustration after spotting AI-edited images of herself dressed in suits—when in reality, she was wearing traditional sarees during a recent visit to Parliament.
In her Instagram Stories, Kangana shared side-by-side images showing the drastic changes AI had made to her original photos. She highlighted how her sarees were digitally replaced by various suits in different colors like blue, brown, and rust. “Originally, these are my pictures from the Parliament in saris. Stop using AI on my pictures,” she urged her followers.
Kangana explained that this manipulation extends beyond just clothing; AI has been used repeatedly to change her makeup and overall look in edited photos circulating online. She called these alterations “violating beyond words” and emphasized the importance of personal choice and autonomy over one’s own image. “Please stop with these AI edits and let me choose/decide how I want to look and what I want to wear when it is entirely my prerogative,” Kangana wrote.
Since becoming a Member of Parliament from Mandi in June 2024, Kangana has consistently chosen to wear sarees during her parliamentary appearances, reflecting her respect for tradition and personal style. The AI modifications, therefore, not only distort her appearance but also undermine her conscious choices as a public figure.
Kangana’s concern touches on a growing debate about the ethical use of AI technology in media. As AI tools become more advanced, the ability to digitally alter images in ways that can misrepresent people raises serious questions about consent and authenticity.
Known for her fearless attitude both on and off-screen, Kangana’s message resonates with many who worry about the consequences of AI misuse. It’s a call to respect individual identity and to stop the unauthorized tampering with personal images.
Apart from her political career, Kangana Ranaut continues to be a prominent name in Indian cinema, celebrated for her powerful roles in films like Queen, Manikarnika, and Panga. She recently portrayed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the movie Emergency and is set to make her Hollywood debut soon.
In a digital world where image manipulation is increasingly common, Kangana’s bold stand reminds us all of the importance of authenticity and personal agency in how we present ourselves to the world.
