There’s another major milestone to celebrate for Kalki 2898 AD. The official handle of the sci-fi epic shared a video announcing that the film has won the 72nd National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Sharing the achievement with fans, the team expressed gratitude to the esteemed jury for recognising the film and embracing its ambitious journey. For a movie that dared to blend mythology, futuristic storytelling and spectacle on a massive scale, the National Award adds another memorable chapter to its journey.
The honour doesn’t stop there. Production designer Nitin Zihani has also received the National Award for Best Production Design for his work on the Telugu-language epic. The recognition is particularly significant for a film whose world-building is one of its biggest attractions. From its futuristic environments to its elaborate sets, Kalki 2898 AD created a visual universe that felt distinctly different from conventional Indian science-fiction cinema.

Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film is set in a dystopian future in the year 2898 AD, with the story drawing inspiration from Hindu mythology. At the centre of the narrative is a mission involving SUM-80's unborn child, believed to be connected to Kalki, the final incarnation of Vishnu.
