The critically acclaimed movie Agra directed by director Kanu Behl is all geared up to hit Indian theatres on November 14, 2025. Following its much-feted premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 in the Directors' Fortnight section and its standing ovation, the film has made its rounds of various international festivals, and to its credit, picked up awards like the Special Jury Award at MAMI, Best Indie Film and Best Actor at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, and Best Film and Best Actor at the New York Indian Film Festival.
Agra is a dark drama delving into the sexuality of a family and the psychological fissures that appear in a fast-dwindling, pigeon-holed contemporary India. Written by Kanu Behl and Atika Chohan, the film is the story of a young man, Guru (played by newcomer Mohit Agarwal), who resides with his parents but is wrestling with frustration, out-of-control fantasies, and self-injury, held captive in an atmosphere of sexual and emotional repression. The film explores deeply problems of space, desire, and those underlying conflicts which are simmering away beneath the surface of family life.
The movie has a fine star cast in Mohit Agarwal, Priyanka Bose (known for her performance in the Oscar-nominated Lion), Rahul Roy making a comeback, Ruhani Sharma, Vibha Chibber, Sonal Jha, and Aanchal Goswami. An Indo-French co-production with Saregama India Ltd, UFO Production, and O28 Films as supporters, Agra was created under the auspices of the highly-regarded PJLF Three Rivers Residency in Italy and sponsored by the 'Cinema du Monde' film fund.
With its unflinching depiction of conflicts within family and social frameworks, Agra guarantees to be a thought-stimulating film experience on its Indian release date of November 14, 2025. It is set to carry forward the tradition of significant, provocative films in recent Indian cinema.
