Lionsgate has officially unveiled the intense first trailer for the upcoming psychological mystery thriller The Housemaid, directed by genre-hopping filmmaker Paul Feig. Known for his work in comedy (Bridesmaids, Spy), Feig takes a sharp turn into darker territory here — and by the looks of it, he’s not holding back.
Based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, the film stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie, a young woman with a shadowy past who takes what seems like a dream job as a live-in housemaid for the ultra-rich and seemingly perfect couple Nina (played by Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But paradise has a price — and in this case, it’s secrecy, manipulation, and a spiraling web of lies.
The trailer teases a twisty, high-gloss thriller brimming with seduction, betrayal, and psychological warfare. As Millie begins to uncover the cracks beneath the Winchester family’s pristine surface, she finds herself entangled in a dangerous game — one that could destroy her or free her, depending on who’s really pulling the strings.
With a supporting cast that includes Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, and more, The Housemaid oozes tension and opulence, making it feel like Gone Girl meets The Hand That Rocks the Cradle — with a stylish, sexy bite.
The screenplay is penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who brings her dark narrative chops from The Boys and The Vampire Diaries, perfectly suited for the layered paranoia and slow-burn suspense that McFadden’s novel is known for.
Set for release on December 19, 2025, The Housemaid looks poised to be the year-end mystery thriller everyone will be talking about — and guessing till the final frame.
