As Welcome completes 18 years, the love for the film shows no signs of fading and director Anees Bazmee says it himself. Marking the milestone, Bazmee calls Welcome a cult film and says the affection audiences have shown over the years hasn’t aged at all. He credits the film’s lasting appeal to its characters, humour, and the emotional connection viewers formed with its madness.

Bazmee says Welcome became more than a comedy. From Majnu and Uday’s outrageous antics to Ghungroo’s priceless expressions, from Rajiv’s innocence to RDX’s unforgettable style, every character stayed alive in public memory. According to him, the film slowly turned into a mood, a reference point, and a comfort watch something audiences return to again and again without thinking twice.

Actor Anil Kapoor echoed that sentiment while sharing his own memories from the film. He said Welcome would not be Welcome without RDX, just as Mr. India would not be complete without Mogambo. Kapoor called both characters irreplaceable and credited them for defining their respective films. Looking back, Kapoor recalled listening to the script for the first time and wondering how such wild humour would translate on screen. He admitted he had doubts. But he said Anees Bazmee immediately reassured him, telling him that Feroz Khan would lift the film. Kapoor says that promise came true RDX didn’t just work, he elevated the entire movie.

Kapoor described the experience as madness mixed with magic. He said Feroz Khan’s presence, confidence, and flamboyance gave Welcome a larger-than-life soul that still resonates with audiences today. What makes Welcome truly special is how fearlessly it embraced excess. The film never tried to be subtle. It celebrated chaos, leaned into loud comedy, and created characters that felt exaggerated yet unforgettable. Over time, television reruns, viral clips, and endlessly quoted lines transformed it into a permanent part of pop culture. Eighteen years later, Welcome still feels exactly like its title—familiar, comforting, and impossible to ignore. Some films release and move on. Welcome moved in, made itself at home, and stayed.
