Actor and veteran talk show host Shekhar Suman is set to make a notable comeback with his new show Shekhar Tonite, and his statements at the launch have already sparked conversation in the entertainment industry. Slated to stream exclusively on YouTube from May 15, 2026, the show marks his return to the late-night talk show space with a renewed focus on creative independence and open expression.
Speaking at the launch, Suman strongly emphasized why he chose digital platforms over traditional television and OTT services. “In my opinion, YouTube is currently the largest platform available, and it possesses a unique sense of freedom. There is a certain uninhibited quality to YouTube—an independence that is absolutely essential for any creative artist; indeed, it is something they desperately need. This is because traditional TV channels and OTT platforms tend to bind you down with a multitude of rules and regulations. Furthermore, they simply lack the standing—the authority—to dictate what you should or should not do. Given our life experiences, our education, and the way we were raised, we have no need for such people to tell us what we are allowed to say and what we are not,” he said.
He further added a sharper critique of industry gatekeeping and censorship-like control in modern entertainment spaces. “Everyone possesses their own distinct perspective. While those individuals may be right from their own standpoint, they often tend to be timid people—the kind who, solely to safeguard their own positions, would never greenlight a show that speaks out against social ills or challenges political figures. They simply do not possess that kind of courage. Moreover, that era has long since passed—if such an era ever truly existed. That is precisely why this move was necessary. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to YouTube for officially coming on board with us. I am truly delighted because, thanks to this platform, I am able to breathe freely; today, I can articulate anything I wish to say, and I can express it entirely in my own way. That feeling brings me immense joy,” Suman added.
Shekhar Tonite is being positioned as a classic celebrity-driven talk show that blends wit, warmth, and meaningful conversations. The show is conceptualized by his son Adhyayan Suman and produced by Dharmesh Sangani under Sangani Brothers Motion Pictures and Cobbled Street. It is also being described as a spiritual revival of Suman’s iconic 90s hit Movers & Shakers, which once defined Indian television’s talk show culture.
Unlike many modern digital formats that rely heavily on shock value or controversial humor, Suman has made it clear that his new show will consciously avoid “abuse culture” and focus instead on thoughtful, engaging dialogue with guests from the entertainment world and beyond.
With its strong stance on creative freedom and a nostalgic yet modern format, Shekhar Tonite is already positioning itself as a distinctive voice in India’s evolving digital entertainment landscape.
