Acclaimed actress Nimrat Kaur, known for her powerful performances in projects like Homeland, Airlift, and The Test Case, is receiving widespread praise for her portrayal of Indrani Raisingh in the recently released web series Kull: The Legacy of the Raisinghs. Directed by Sahir Raza and penned by Chiranjeevi Bajpai, the 2025 Hindi-language drama thriller premiered on May 2nd on JioHotstar, and has quickly become a talking point for its intense storytelling, grandeur, and layered performances.
Speaking about her experience, Nimrat shares,"It felt wonderful to portray this character. Such roles rarely come your way in your career—where you get to play royalty as a woman. It's very exciting—wearing beautiful clothes, the aesthetic indulgence is a part of the thrill for any actor. But behind all that is a deeply emotional complexity. The story unfolds in a palace in Rajasthan, and playing Indrani Raisingh was probably one of the biggest emotional challenges I've taken on. She has such a layered, peculiar lifetime. It was fascinating."
Nimrat also revealed her personal connection to the character’s name."I had suggested a few names, and 'Indrani' was the one that got selected. It’s my favorite—also an avatar of Goddess Durga."
For an actor often associated with strong, assertive characters, Indrani was a different journey."This was unusual compared to the roles I’ve played before—like Bimla Devi Chaudhary in Dasvi or my roles in Homeland and Airlift. This character had power, money, political drive. But inside her house, in her personal life,—within those four walls—she was going through deep emotional crises: a broken marriage, strained sibling relationships. she never really got a chance to live her life. She didn’t even have an identity. For the first time, I played a character where I’d be standing on set and feel completely lost. She is someone who’s constantly searching for herself in every moment."
She adds that the arc of the character brings a subtle but significant transformation:"In the second half of the show, you’ll see her begin to come into her own. By the end, you almost wish she could be freed from life itself. It was a deeply emotional, challenging experience."
With Kull: The Legacy of the Raisinghs, Nimrat Kaur reaffirms her place as one of India’s most nuanced and courageous performers—unafraid to dive into characters who are broken, conflicted, and in search of their truth.
