Think you know the Cinderella story? Netflix is ready to turn that fairy tale upside down! The streaming giant has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming animated film Steps, offering a playful new take on the classic story by putting Cinderella’s famously misunderstood stepsisters in the spotlight. Packed with magical chaos, outrageous characters and a kingdom in trouble, the film promises a fresh spin on the happily-ever-after formula. And honestly, who says the princess should always get the final word?
At the centre of the story is Lilith, voiced by Ali Wong, a stepsister who is tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow. When she steals the Fairy Godmother’s magical wand and disrupts the Royal Ball alongside her sister Margot, things spiral spectacularly out of control. Lilith accidentally turns Margot into a frog, while the chaos creates an opportunity for the scheming Priscilla, voiced by Nikki Glaser, to seize the throne and bring the kingdom under her tyrannical rule. Suddenly, the fairy tale has a much bigger problem than a missing glass slipper!
Now, Lilith must do the one thing she probably never imagined: team up with Cinderella herself. Voiced by Amanda Seyfried, Cinderella joins her stepsister on a dangerous quest to save the kingdom and repair their complicated relationship. Their adventure involves biker trolls, evil henchmen and an escape through the mysterious Screaming Woods. Between magical mishaps and unexpected enemies, the sisters must learn to work together before everything falls apart. It is a classic fantasy adventure, but with a deliciously mischievous twist.
The voice cast is another reason to keep Steps on your radar. Alongside Ali Wong and Amanda Seyfried, the film features Stephanie Hsu as Margot, Nikki Glaser as Priscilla, Daniel Radcliffe as the Prince and Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother.
